Lafayette is known for the high quality life it produces with it's top rated education system, low crime rate, petite downtown, fresh air, comfortable climate and oak tree spotted hills.Lafayette's population approximately stands at 24,400 with the number of families at 9,270.

Lafayette's settlement began in 1848 although it wasn't incorporated until 1968. This city has quite a history. It dates back more than 10,000 years ago when the Scalans settled here in a number of vilaages. Then in 1797, they fought a battle with the Spaniards on what was later to become Lafayette soil.

The Reservoir is located a mile from the Lafayette BART station off Highway 24.  Open year-round, it's a great place to hike, jog, fish, boat and picnic.  There you can also rent rowboats and pedal boats. Families or groups can enjoy a reserved picnic area holding anywhere from 50-200 people.  For smaller groups, individual tables and barbecues are part of the amenities.  Children can choose from two different play areas to liven their day. There is an entry fee to the park and that is only $5.  The park operates depending on the season.
